Scott Wu
Born in October of 1983 in Portland, Oregon and raised in San Francisco, Scott has been training in the art of Renshinkan Shorinji-Ryu Okinawa-Te since 1995. He started competing in 1997 and was raised to the rank of black belt in 2000. Scott has since attained his second degree black belt in 2005 and has been teaching classes and seminars for over 5 years.
Wu was introduced to martial arts by his god-sister in 1995 and trained under his god-father, Manuel Gonzalez, the head instructor of a karate studio in San Francisco. After attaining his first degree black belt, Scott decided to take a year off from competition to expand his knowledge and learn other martial art styles while also concentrating on his school work. He tried out cross-country and track as well as wrestling while on that break. He returned to the competition scene in 2002, and competed in local tournaments in California such as GSKA, AMAPA, and Goldcup. As he progressed through the years, he became involved with national circuits such as NASKA, NBL and eventually IMAC. He states “I competed outside of the country…There, I realized that martial art is my life.” Scott has competed in renowned national and international tournaments in Quebec, Canada; Acapulco, Mexico; Orlando, Florida; Vancouver, Canada; and Atlanta, Georgia.
With his talent and knowledge of martial arts, Wu has been featured on ESPN2 multiple times as well as a music video for Angels and Airwaves and several films such as Contour, Deadly Finger Returns, and Close the Door. He has also been featured in Sport Karate Magazine, SportMartialArts.com, and TigerClaw Magazine a number of different times.
Outside of karate, Scott received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from San Jose State University in the spring of 2007. He enjoys boxing, dynamic kicks & tricks, stunts, fight choreographing, breakdancing, bowling, and is fluent in the Cantonese language. He is actively conducting seminars in Northern California, Michigan, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, and Texas.
